Exorcism
To many people exorcism is known as driving the Devil and his demons out of the victims being possessed. The word “exorcism” comes from the Greek proposition ek with the verb horkizo and it means “I cause [someone] to swear” or also “putting the spirit or demon on oath”. Therefore, exorcism is placing the Devil and his demons on oath not driving them out of the possessed victims.
The concept of exorcism was recognized during the prehistoric shamanistic beliefs. Hinduism contains spells known in their holy books, the Vedas to cast out evil demons. The Hebrew Bible and New Testament has a section about Jesus performing exorcisms.

ShamanismIn Shamanism, exorcism is a practice acknowledged to have been ancient and widespread. A shaman is the only person able to perform an exorcism. In order for the exorcism to work the shaman must have total faith in his/her ability. The shaman must not let the demon to influence his ways to out beat him/her. The demon may be using tricks as knowing the shaman’s deepest secrets to make him/her feel embarrass or the demon can become aggressive and may attack the shaman through telekinetic attacks or etc.
Exorcism also reached along the Chinese religious culture such as Taoism. Taoism is known as the “maintenance of harmony”. The shaman enters into the spiritual world and will construct a connection with forces of light and dark. The Chinese deals with the demons with the “Thunder Department (lei bu)” which is a ritual performance involved with martial deities. Korean shamanism became influenced by the Buddhism and Taoism with the practice of exorcism. A Korean shaman is known as a “mudang”. The mudang is most likely a woman who has the ability to be the negotiator between God/the gods and human beings. The shaman helps cure illness that may be cause by possession. Therefore, the shaman will perform an exorcism on the victim to rid of the demon. |
This clip is an example of the Korean's ritual performance.

Shamans of the Native Americans are more involved with the cleansing of the body. They use spiritual healing powers to treat the victims with illness that may have been caused by demons or any evil spirits.
Buddhism
For Buddhism, the exorcists that perform the exorcism are the chief priest and his assistant. They read from a section in their scriptures of Buddhism, a sutra. While reading the sutra they burn special incense. The priest carries a wooden staff that has metal rings on them that will scare demons or evil spirits away. Examples of how to drive the spirits away from the victim are fasting, being in extreme cold water, and slapping the skin done by some of the Buddhism traditions.
Juduaism
An exorcism is performed by surrounding the victim of the possession with ten people and the rabbi included. As the exorcism proceeds the rabbi has a shofar which is a ram’s horn trumpet. The other people in the group will recite Pslam 91 repetitively as the rabbi blows the shofar in a certain kind of pattern. After that the rabbi will enter a conversation to ask the purpose of why the demon or spirit is there. The group will then help say a prayer for the demon or spirit. The main purpose is to heal the victim and the soul/spirit/demon doing the possession.

ChristianityIn the New Testament, Jesus was known as the ultimate exorcist of the time. From Luke 8:26-39 he had ridden the world of at least 2,000 evil spirits out of a cemetery and had them “enter into a herd of swine be drowned in the adjacent lake”. Exorcism became important through the years and is still being practiced now. Roman Catholicism and Anglicanism, Orthodox Church, and Protestant denominations are all still practicing exorcism.
This is a clip about the Russian's exorcism which is very similar to Christanity's way of practicing exorcism.
